Specializing In Prenatal and Postpartum Coaching

Just want to give a little blog update! I am currently working on my certification to specialize in prenatal and postpartum fitness. I feel strongly that that is where I belong and have the most to give. I didn’t start really getting into health and fitness until I became pregnant for the first time. I suffered from eating disorders and excessively exercising but as soon as those lines showed up, I knew my body was no longer my own and I needed to learn how to treat it right.

I ate pretty well throughout my first pregnancy. I loved salads and fresh fruits. I was a cardio queen and walked 2-3 miles daily. I also did some prenatal yoga. With that pregnancy I gained 30 lbs.

After having my first I struggled with the last 10 lbs. I did slim fast, frozen lean cuisines and jogged 2 miles a day. The weight did not budge! I became pregnant for the second time very quickly after my first. That pregnancy ended in a miscarriage. I worried that it was my fault from jogging postpartum. (It wasn’t) Then my rainbow baby came along at 9 months postpartum with my first. I continued to exercise, walking with my first born in the stroller, at home prenatal yoga and kept learning more and more about nutrition. With that pregnancy I gained 25 lbs.

After I had my 2nd, I lost the weight very quickly and got in the best shape of my life! I fell in love with exercise and nutrition and decided to become a personal trainer. I didn’t exactly have a direction on where to go with my certification yet. Then came along surprise baby #3.

With my 3rd I struggled a lot with weight gain during my pregnancy. I developed severe depression in the first trimester. I gained 40 lbs total and developed gestational diabetes. I felt like a failure. How could I be training to become a personal trainer but not be the image of a “fit mom”? I struggled with knowing what exercises I could do. The drs guidelines are lacking in information. I was always concerned of harming my baby by doing too much. There just wasn’t a lot of information out there on prenatal exercises.

Due to that experience, I realized that I want to help other moms going through pregnancy/postpartum and that are unsure of what to do to remain or begin to be healthy. I’m currently 5 months postpartum and have been following the training I’ve been receiving from my certification. I have to say that this postpartum phase has gone so much smoother than my other 2. I know what to expect postpartum and have been better prepared. I practice much more grace than I ever did before. I’ve learned that it’s not about “prebaby” jeans but actual health.

My blog will focus on pregnancy and postpartum fitness but I will also share general weight loss and health tips as well. I would love for you to share my blog with women who are pregnant or postpartum AND interested in healthy tips.
